Archive for June 2017Fuel Injector Cleaning at Matt Davis AutoPosted June 26, 2017 10:23 AMIn very simple terms, a fuel injector is a valve that squirts fuel into your vehicle engine. Your engine control computer tells the fuel injector how much fuel to deliver as well as the precise time it should be delivered. Of course this happens thousands of times a minute in every single fuel-injected vehicle driving down Garner roads. A few have recently introduced gas direct injection systems on some engines. They are now available at some NC dealerships. These systems inject the gas directly into the cylinders under very high pressure – many times the pressure of port injection systems. Although more complicated, direct injection technology promises greater power with improved fuel economy. NC motorists can expect to see more of it in the future. Your technician at Matt Davis Auto can perform a fuel system service for you in which the fuel injectors are cleaned so that they operate properly and deliver the right amount of fuel at the right time. Proper maintenance of your vehicle fuel system means that you will spend less on gas, enjoy strong performance and prevent repair bills down the road. Matt Davis Auto Ask Matt Davis Auto: What Happens When a Serpentine Belt Breaks?Posted June 12, 2017 8:06 AMThe serpentine belt is aptly named since it snakes around under your hood. It may lack its namesake's fangs, but it sure packs a wallop when it breaks. Matt Davis Auto Protecting Your Vehicle from Theft in Garner, NCPosted June 5, 2017 1:47 AM
Let's review each of these. One is common sense; you would be surprised how many vehicles are stolen in NC where the keys were left in the ignition with the doors unlocked. Always take your keys and lock the doors. In fact, in some places it's against the law to leave a vehicle unattended with the keys in the ignition. Matt Davis Auto PCV Valve Service at Matt Davis Auto in GarnerPosted June 1, 2017 9:39 AMToday, we are talking about your PCV valve. Unburnt fuel is forced into the crankcase as your engine runs. The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve vents this unburnt fuel and oil vapors from the crankcase and sends it back into the air intake system to be burned in the engine. A clogged PCV will not allow these vapors to escape. This can dilute and contaminate the oil, leading to damaging engine oil sludge. It can also cause vehicle engine corrosion, something we see occasionally at Matt Davis Auto. At high speeds on NC freeways, the pressure can build up to the point that gaskets and seals start to leak. Back in the old days, vehicles were simply installed with a hose that vented these gases out into the atmosphere. But starting in the 1964 model year, environmental protection laws required that these gases be recycled back into the air intake system to be mixed with fuel and burned in the vehicle's engine.
